Five things Teal’c remembers from the 50 years on the Odyssey that he does tell the others

1. he told them about movie night & pizza night, poker night, karaoke night, poetry night.... they did a lot to keep from being bored.

2. teal'c talked about the speculations that they had about what might have happened on earth if they were actually there all of those years. mitchell thought that 3-D technology would improve, sam was certain there would be a woman president of the U.S. & no one thought the stargate program would be made public.

3. he mentioned the cooking attempts that went wrong; sam's go at making souffle & mitchell trying, and mostly failing, to make his grandmother's recipes based on what he remembered of their taste.

4. teal'c brought up mitchell's on-going quest to recreate every video game he had ever enjoyed playing. he had talked sam into helping him, with limited success.

5. he said that daniel had tutored them in various languages & was annoyed that not one of them had a passable accent.

i finally got to see part 2 of HP 7 (could've sworn i did something on part 1)

WARNING! spoilers ahead

first of all they added stuff or showed things that only got a mention in the books. i hate that.
fred's death wasn't shown, which could've bee a good opportunity to have percy back. (if you've read the book you know what i mean)
i liked the inclusion of luna/nevill, even though i think JKR didn't think like that.
some mention should've been made about how dumbledore's sister died.
why did they just have hagred being a prisoner of lore V in the forest?
why was the battle for hogwarts so dark? and did it have to be at night.
why didn't tonk's & remus' kid get more than a throw away mention? and nothing was said about harry being the godfather.
i guess the reason goyle died in the fire instead of crabbe was because the actor playing crabbe got into some sort of trouble.(if i recall) that's why there was some random slytherin boy with dracco in that scene.
i was a bit more emotional than i expected.

Five movies which were poor choices for Team Night (and why).

any war movie. they reminded them of their times under fire.

Five ways Jack kept his promise to show Teal'c his world

when teal'c asked about sports jack told him all about them. (well most of them. he knows very little about golf, soccer, lacrosse & jai alai.) he also showed teal'c sports magazines & a few games.

jack introduced him to earth food and drink. pizza, burgers, beer, hot dogs, cake, coffee, etc. and found out from teal'c that a surprising number of things were similar to food & drink on other planets.

teal'c asked about the music of earth and jack dragged out his old record player & his small collection of records. he even borrowed some from the library, including music from other countries.

while looking at a fashion magazine that had been left in the mess hall teal’c wondered aloud if most earth women looked like that. jack pointed to the women of SGC to explain that beauty came in all sorts of shapes, sizes & colors. he tried to find magazines that reflected this, but settled on discretely pointing out women that he considered beautiful the next few times he went off base with teal’c.

when teal'c commented about the size of the mountains in colorado, jack said: "these are nothing." and showed him pictures of the himalayas. this led to jack finding pictures of the great barrier reef, the grand canyon, aurora borealis, brazilian rain-forest, the serengeti, antarctica & the sahara desert.

went to ihop the other day. went with the strawberry banana french toast combo, which was ok. i was temped by one of their holiday special pancakes, the white chocolate mint. but 1. i'm not fond of the mint & 2. i'd rather not have pancakes if i can help it.
i was also tempted by their new york cheesecake pancakes, but again they're pancakes i wish they had more waffle options.i know they're the international house of pancakes but the nearest waffle house is like 35 miles away & they don't have as many interesting flavors.

i'm getting more & more fed up with burger king. some reasons;

1. they changed the fries. they're thicker & taste strange to me. it might be the preservatives.

2. their new chef's choice burger was good, but kind of pricey. the fancy sauce came back on both me & my brother.

3. their topper burger (i had the western BBQ) was just meh.

over all they're better than mcdonald's IMHO.

Five pieces of advice the members of SG1 offer newbies, off the record

carry more than the suggested number of meal bars. because; 1. sometimes the local food is stuff that guy on bizarre foods wouldn't touch and 2. occasionally giving one to a hungry-looking local will have benefits later on.

don't hook-up with any locals if you can avoid it. you never know who's really the chief's son or a supposedly virgin priestess & sometimes the gender isn't what you thought.

always use twice the recommended purification tablets when you fill your canteen with the local water. montezuma's revenge is not limited to earth.

try not to voice your admiration of anything, this often leads to someone offering to give it to you. it's bad enough when it's a colorful tent, but when it's 50 sheep plus 2 shepherds it gets problematic.

be careful with your gestures. an innocent one to us could be a major insult to someone else.

"all cheese!" daniel responded.

"mexican." "chinese." "thai." jack, daniel & sam replied at the same time.
teal'c sighed.

sharing a tent off-world wasn't too bad, it had room enough for all of them & no one really snored. then a sound like air escaping from a balloon could be heard. "what was tha....oh my God!" daniel exclaimed. "sorry. i think it was that stuff that looked like tuna they served for dinner." jack told them. "sorry." jack repeated as he broke wind again. sam stared coughing, but it had bit of a giggle in it. "an interesting noise." daniel commented and started chuckling. soon all of them were laughing. "i believe i'll sleep outside tonight." teal'c informed them.

"i've got shotgun!" daniel called out as they approach the car. "you got it last time." jack said, folding his arms. "did not!" daniel replied. "did too!" jack tells him. "actually, according to my list, it's my turn." sam informs them. "you keep a list?" jack wonders. teal'c takes his place in the car, knowing they'll soon give up and get in.

sam finished the last cut in the cake. "go ahead." she gestured with her knife. "lady's first." jack said. sam shook her head. "the one who cuts doesn't choose." jack shrugged and reached for a piece. "you would take the biggest one." daniel muttered. jack harrumphed & sam started in with how every piece was equal. teal'c took a piece for himself, walked away and let them fight it out.

part of the bank along the creek sg-1 was walking next to gave way, all four ended up in the water. they checked themselves for injuries and finding none, started to get out of the water. daniel slipped and fell, splashing sam. "watch it!" she said splashing him back. "it was an accident!" he said, scooping up a handful of water and hitting her in the chest with it. "both of you, cut it out right now!" jack said, kicking water at them both. sam and dainiel looked at each other for a moment, then started splashing jack, who sputtered in anger and tried to splash them back. teal'c climbed out of the water, laid out his gear to dry and waited for the others to tire themselves out.

Five Earth traditions or customs Vala really likes

1. dressing up for halloween. she liked to wear costumes anyway, but the fact that you could get candy for it was just icing on the cake.

2. celebrating birthdays. most planets didn't, either you were happy you were still alive to see another year or you weren't. it was nice to be somewhere were people celebrated life. the presents & cake were a nice bonus.

3. a day to give thanks. for the little things as well as the big ones. plus it's the only time vala can get sweet potato casserole.

4. celebrating the new year with champagne, celebrating anything with champagne really.

5. a day to get gifts to honor someone else's birthday, a religious icon no less. another day of presents plus a bunch of food. bonus: there big sales before and after.

i can't believe it was this time last year (more or less) that my brother were in line to pick up our badges for our second dragon-con. and would be in line for like 4 more hours. (UGH!) but hopefully with the new system, that wait is much shorter. it's the 25th anniversary of the con & my brother thinks we should've went to this year's instead of last year's. but everyone is going to this one & scott bakula was at last year's. and many of this year's star trek people were at the on in 2009. but there a a few new ones thanks to garrett wang being in charge of the track now. i would love to go back some day, but my vetoed that. plus it's more complicated to travel now because of all the security stuff.

went to applebee's for my brother's birthday. dad had the philly burger & a cup of the tomato basil soup (after changing his mind like 4 times) he said the burger was dry, but the soup was good.
my brother & i had the cheese-stuffed meatballs & fettuccine alfredo. the picture in the menu (& their site) show these big things that are 90% cheese & 10% meat on the outside. the reality, of course, is different; meatballs on the small side with a little core of cheese. they were OK, but know what we where expecting.
next year he wasn't to go to IHOP instead.

had an opportunity to go back to the waffle house we went to in july. (was in the area anyway) i was going to have a bacon cheeseburger, but the burgers come with hash browns & not fires. so i had the all star breakfast (no grits this time) i had my waffle with chocolate chips.
the waffle was not quite as good as last time. it wasn't as crisp & the "chocolate" irritated my throat for some reason. not sure i would want to go there again.

Five times Daniel couldn't speak because he was laughing too hard

vala once, on a whim, dyed her hair a bubblegum/cotton candy pink. the image that sprang to daniel's mind was her in the world of willy wonka. he managed to hold it until he got into the elevator & burst out laughing. which caused dr. lee, who was in it, to get out quickly.

the infamous tickle-torture of P4A-602. daniel still wonders how they expect to get information out of people if they’re laughing so much.

during a skit show that cassie was in her senior year of high school.

the spores from some kind of purple plant P3R-212 caused him to laugh so hard and long that teal’c & mitchell had to carry him back to the gate. for some reason traveling through the wormhole cured him.

a village elder once asked if jack & daniel were a couple because they had been arguing a lot during that mission. while laughing daniel managed indicate through gestures that they were most definitely not a couple. to this day he hasn’t told anyone what the elder asked.

went to golden corral for my birthday yesterday & the stuff is going down hill. the blue cheese crumbles on the salad bar were more blue than cheese, the fish was dried out & i haven't had any of their desserts in years.

it seems like several entries here have been me complaining about food, but that's who it is. some place new opens up & in 6 months the food and/or drink is down the tubes. i'm tired of disappointing food! people want the flying cars or jet packs all those futuristic movies had, i just want the food pills.

went to denny's (can never remember if it is 's or just s) for deserts not long ago. i was hoping to have the plain white tees shake, which is vanilla ice cream, milk & cheesecake blended into a shake. sadly, they no longer had it. i had the oreo blaster shake, which was OK, i guess. not what i wanted though.
my brother had the PWT shake after we came back from anime-expo in 2009 & then a gain a few months later. he said it was really good. *pouts*

in joseph mallozzi's blog he's been reminiscing about stargate: SG-1 starting with the 4th season when he joined the writing staff.

in the may 4th entry he wrote;

It’s often been said that number one on the call sheet sets the tone, and it’s true. If your number one is miserable, he’ll make every single person on set miserable as well. If, on the other hand, your number one is a t.v. veteran who loves what he’s doing and feels life is too short for petty on-set squabbles or power plays, then that positive attitude tends to influence the entire production. Hey, I’m not saying it was always easy and that people never disagreed (ie. Boy, did Rick ever hate Prometheus) but there was always that mutual respect and sense that, in spite of any differences, all the parties would be back at it the next day, sharing a laugh and having a great time. Rick, as I said, set the tone.

my brother & i love salads, not the small i'm on a diet ones, but big almost too much to eat salads. these things can feed 2 people (6 if they're fashion models) we put in all the stuff we want; dice ham, baby spinach, carrot matchsticks, all kinds of cheese, croutons & a bunch of dressing.

the problem is you cna get into a never ending cycle. "i still have dressing, so i need more salad stuff." or "i still have lettuce, ham, & croutons, so i need more dressing." we just decide to stop after a few days.

not long ago my brother showed me how to change the post editor; click on setting & scroll down to the bottom. under global settings & select post editor pick updated editor.
you now have new icons at the top of the posting area. the one that looks like a piece paper ripped in two is page break (or a "cut" as the say on LJ & DW) everything after that will lined to another page, so to speak. it's good for long posts.
the text says "read more" but if you want something different click on design & click edit on the section where the blog posts go. you can rename that text. you can also have reactions to each post; funny, interesting & cool. you can rename that section too in the same area.

managed to hit the golden corral breakfast buffet yesterday. it was ok except for one thing; no waffles! they had two kinds of pancakes (plain & blueberry) and two kinds of french toast (plain & banana nut) but no waffles!
i'm a waffle person, don't really care for pancakes. i can't be the only one, so why can't they work it in? my brother pointed out that they have two pots of bacon & two of sausage links, so why can't they take out one of those put one of waffles in their place?

then again, maybe they only have waffles on sunday?

BTW the food i had was fine, except for the breakfast burrito (90% onion & green pepper, 8% egg & 2% sausage) but the whole experience was lessened for lack of waffles.

so my brother wanted to get this prosciutto wrapped mozzarella from wal-mart. he ended up getting mozzarella marinated in italian spices & goat's milk cheese too.

the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella was ok, but i kept thinking; "this ham is not cooked!"
the mozzarella marinated in italian spices was alright, except for all the spices and the oil it was marinated in.
the goat's milk cheese was....bitter? something. it's a bit better smeared on part of a bagel thin. and by "smeared" i mean pushed on with a knife & hoping it sticks.

he worried that the ori couldn't be defeated.

for several years he blamed himself for the accident that took his father's legs. they had an argument over mitchell's grades earlier that day & he though it distracted his father.

that vala reminds him of one of his cousins.

a few days ago we (brother and i) tried the new chipotle bbq quarter-pound angus burger at mcdonalds. i was expecting it to be hotter than it was, but it was surprisingly mild. the sause left a lingering aftertaste, so we won't be getting that again.

a few days ago we (brother & i) found this stuff called crisp-ins (i think that's it) chips make out of popcorn. we got the sea salt & the white cheddar. there's also buffalo & jalapeno one too.

they're just average. taste kind of like rice cakes. won't get them again.

several days ago i tried the new oatmeal from mcdonald's. one word describes it; blah.

there wasn't very much of it (then again maybe that's the amount you're supposed to eat) the fruit was just ok, it had some milk in it (which seemed odd, even though i put milk in it when i make it at home) and there was a trace of brown sugar in the bottom that almost went unnoticed.

i would've been better off if i had a couple of packets of the quaker instant flavored oatmeal.
