i finally got to see part 2 of HP 7 (could've sworn i did something on part 1)

WARNING! spoilers ahead


first of all they added stuff or showed things that only got a mention in the books. i hate that.
fred's death wasn't shown, which could've bee a good opportunity to have percy back. (if you've read the book you know what i mean)
i liked the inclusion of luna/nevill, even though i think JKR didn't think like that.
some mention should've been made about how dumbledore's sister died.
why did they just have hagred being a prisoner of lore V in the forest?
why was the battle for hogwarts so dark? and did it have to be at night. 
why didn't tonk's & remus' kid get more than a throw away mention? and nothing was said about harry being the godfather. 
i guess the reason goyle died in the fire instead of crabbe was because the actor playing crabbe got into some sort of trouble.(if i recall) that's why there was some random slytherin boy with dracco in that scene.
i was a bit more emotional than i expected. 

potter repeat

i re-read the harry potter novels in order. it took a couple of months, but i did it!
it only served to increase my need to see the seventh movie. now.

well they left stuff out, as was to be expected. but when they add stuff and change things around (like it wasn't luna that found harry on the train, but tonks) or the attack on the wesley home, that annoys me. i annoyed my brother by pointing this stuff out.
over all not a bad movie, but it was too dark for a PG rating. what was the rating board thinking?

the 7th harry potter movie

i'm a few days late & a few dollars short on this, but the 7th hary poter movie will be in 2 parts because there's so much stuff going on. in truth, all of the movies could've been in 2 parts. i don't know how they decide what stays and what goes.
and while on the subject of the HP movies, i wish they'd redo #4 somehow. i found it to be "choppy." i thought it was because i saw the first 3 movies before i read the books. (i read 4 & 5 before saw the movies) but my mom thought i was "choppy" too. and don't get me started on some of the boys' hair. i don't care if they're in a magic school, their hair would not be allowed to be that long!

yesterday i saw the 5th harry potter movie & it was great! a damn good book too. however, 4-7 should come with a hanky warning for the end.
of course it couldn't cover what the book did, that would be a 9 hour movie. for example: the whole hermione crusade to liberate the house elves plot thread was dropped.
i didn't like the fact that cho change was made the informer of the group (even though a potion was used on her) in the book it was a friend of her's. but it's better for the character than crying over cedric (her boyfriend who was killed at the end of 4) like in the book.
they keep talking about you-know-who causing trouble 14 years ago. but harry's about 16 & i thought he was just an infant when all of that happened. but i suppose he could've been a bit older.
i like the little thing with hermione's cat playing with fred & george's "extendable ears" but it would've made more sense, IMHO. to mention that the weasley twins went into a joke/prank business with harry's winnings from the wizard tournament in 4.
they made sure that kreacher didn't look like doby lest you tink that all house elves look alike. they should've explained that the woman's voice that he was talking to was the picture of sirius' mother. a anti-mugle.
evanna lynch was wonderful as luna, just what you expect. i wonder if she sounds that way in real life? or was it something for the movie?
helena bonham carter chew the scenery for the brief time she was there. i don't mean that as something negative, you expect secene-chewing from bad guys.
i don't know why people are going on about natalia tena as tonks. she had all of maybe 6 lines. and honestly didn't strike me as something great.
michael gambon was good as dumbledore. nothing against him, but i will always see richard harris in the role. his granddaughter called that one right.

unintended dirty moment: when fred & george apperaite behind their mother: "just because you're old enough, dosen't mean you can whip out your wands when ever you want!" (or something. you get the gist)

last night j.k. rowelling was on dateline. she talked about the book & about the epilogue. plus some things she didn't put in. so here's my opinion on that.

spoilers for the last potter book!



they had a BIG battle at hogwarts. you-know-who called a cease fire & told them to hand over harry. of course they didn't. the battle then continues. during this time they (H, R & HR) went to where he was. y-k-w had the wand that's one of the hollows. since snape killed dumbledore the wand's loyalty is the one who won it from it's previous owner. y-k-w does killing spell on him & after he leaves harry coms to him & snape gives him memories before dies. (if you've seen/read #4 you know what i mean) in these harry sees that snape has been in love with his mother for years & was really just misunderstood and wanted to be accepted. [kind of like darth vader] dumbledore was going to dieing anyway. when y-k-w tried to kill him as a baby, part of his (y-k-w's) got into harry, making him one of the things that has to be destroyed to kill y-k-w.
harry goes to find y-k-w (after telling his friend nevill that the snake y-k-w has must die) & discovers what was in the snitch, a stone (that's one of the soul pieces which dumbledore destroyed) that can, with limits, bring back the dead. his parents, god father & friend (the werewolf from #3) walk with him to the confrontation. harry let's y-k-w strike him dead, but he's not quite. as a piece of the baddie's soul is in a snake. he sees dumbledore & is told pretty much everything. he chooses to go back.
harry "plays dead" & is taken back to hogwarts. y-k-w gloats, but his magic doesn't work well on the defenders of hog warts. harry "makes his move" & the fight is rejoined. nevill kills the snake & reinforcements come in the form of friends & family of the defenders as well as many magical creatures. harry & y-k-w finally square off. hary tells y-k-w that the wand doesn't work well for him because snape didn't "win" it from dumbledore, draco did. since harry defeated him the wand will work for harry. y-k-w doesn't believe him & strikes with the killing spell at the same moment harry uses a disarming spell. the killing spell is reflected back to y-k-w & kills him. harry goes to to the haedmaster's office & talks to the dumbledore painting. he keeps the invisibility cloak (inherited & one of the hallows) returns the want to dumbledore's tomb. since harry didn't kill to get it & if no one kills him to get it, it won't be as powerful as it was. the stone was dropped in the dark forest (or whatever it is) so no one should find it.
the epilogue is 19 years later harry as married ron's sister & they have 3 kids. the oldest 2 (boys) are going of to hogwarts (the younger's first time) he's worried about being placed in slytherin (the house where most of the baddies go) harry tells him not to worry, he can choose to be in another. he sees them, as well as his friend's kids (ron & hermoninie got married [R & HR shippers rejoice]) off. he knows they'll be fine. [some people think the epilogue felt tacked-on. i agree, but i like it. i hope they'll keep it for the movie]

well that's over. [kind of releived, kind of sad] now i can go back to my semi-happy, semi-safe world of star trek novels, murder mysteries & the occasional fantasy world novel.

potter update

SPOILERS FOR HARRY POTTER #7!!



i only read 9 more chapers. *UGH!* mostly because i felt blah.
the search for the piece of the soul of you-know-who continues. what the "deathly hallows" are was reveled. [i like how rowlling worked in a fairy tale in the middle of all of this] they (H, R & HR) went to visit luna lovegood's [love these names] father & almost got caught by death eaters. harry became obsessed about finding "the hallows" & said you-know-who's name (it had been enchanted so as to find people) they got captured & taken to the baddie's headquarters. bad stuff happens & they are rescued by dobby the house elf (who's killed in the process) *sob, sniffle*
they others recover & harry figures out that there's a soul-piece at gringots (the wizard's bank) the break-in with the help of a gremlin (or something) that got rescued along with them. all kinds of crap happened & the little bugger turned on them [BIG surprise *roll eyes*] they escaped thanks to the help of a dragon that guards the bank. they are now at hogwarts and what's left of dumbledore's army wants to help fight the big fight.

i've read 14 chapters since the last post. and instead of trying to remember all the stuff i want to say & do a post at the end of it, i'll do one a day for as long as i'm reading it. (if i remember)
they're (harry, hermineie, & ron) are out looking for the pieces of you-know-who's soul that he's divided & put into common objects. there are 7 in all. 2 have been destroyed at this point. dumbledore left them stuff in his wil. ron got a gadget that takes lights & put's them back. harry got the first snitch he ever got in a game & gryphindore's sword. hermineie got a book of nursery rhymes written in runes.
they found one piece of soul in a locket, but had no idea how to destroy it. ron got mad & left. the 2 left went to the village where harry's parents were killed & were nearly caught by you-know-who. ron came back [i knew he would] the light gadget helped him find them again. [i won't get in to how] they found the sword of gryphindore & ron destroyed the locket. [i won't get in to why it was him]
anyway that's more or less where i am now. i can't wait to see what goes on next.

i'm referring of course to the 7th harry potter book. i broke down and bought it at wal-mart (only $17.78)
i started reading it this morning. as of now i've just finished the 6th chapter. a somewhat minor character has died (mad-eye) and another has been (george) mangled. & they killed harry's owl!
lupin (form book #3) & tonks got married. bill (ron's brother) & fleur (from the #4 book) got married, but the party was crashed by death eaters. forcing harry, ron & hermonie to go on their quest a little earlier than planed. luckily hermonie enchanted a bag to carry a bunch of stuff, including a tent.
