i miss stargate: sg-1

not only the episodes, but the old five things community on love journal.

that's the problem when a tv show or movie series is over, most of that kind of things just dries up.

but with stuff like star trek & star wars, even where they wasn't a lot of new visual content (shows or movies) there where still novels. and with star trek there was enough variety with the shows and movies that people were doing fan fic in between movies and tv series. in fact fan fic is the big thing it is because of star trek.

girls and (video) games

there's this community on live journal called fandomsecrets. it's like post secret, but it's secrets about tv shows, movies, books & the like. anyway one secret was that a female in a video game forum had to hide her gender because the males don't take females who are "gamers" seriously. they think they only play "girly" games or are looking for attention.
personally i was never into video games. i play the occasional sports game and i was really into tetris & dr. mario for some reason. i live vicariously through my brother's playing. i give advice along the lines of "RUN! JUMP! DUCK! LOOK OUT!" i offer suggestions that he rarely takes and when he does, he never rarely says thank you.
it's the same for sci-fi, no girls allowed. if they watch a show or movie, it's only because there's a "cute" guy in it.
for the record i've never watched a tv show or movie for a "cute" guy. take star trek for instance; i watched TOS when i was like 5 or 6 & had no interest in that sort of thing. i'm not sure why i like it frankly, but i did. even as i got older, i didn't find any cute guys in it. (although i now think the McCoy was "easy on the eyes") the same for TNG & DS9. as for VOY it wasn't until season 5 that i found paris to be "interesting." ENT is a different story. i was a fan of scott bakula's from quantum leap & it was STAR TREK.
i was about 5 or 6 for for voyagers! (sic), a tv show you've probaly never heard of, & it started my love for time travel.
for star wars. i was fascinated by this movie that everyone talked for years. i finally saw SW: an new hope on tv (with commercials) then a few years later i watched TESB & ROTJ back-to-back on cable. the last hour of which i had to pee so bad that i nearly passed out. i was like 10. it wasn't until later on i came to "appreciate" han solo.
stargate i'll freely admit i got into because of RDA (he was macgyver for crying out loud!) but if the stories weren't interesting i'm telling you right now i wouldn't have watched beyond the 3rd episode. it was later on that i found o'neill to be "interesting" & as for jackson, it wasn't until season 8.

fan confessions: pt. 2

this is the star trek instalment, not doubt it will be a long one. as there are 5 series & 10 movies. these aren't going to be in series order, more of a stream of consciousness kind of thing.
  • i never thought that kirk & spock were so great. i'm starting to think that mccoy was though.
  • i'm glad that riker and troi got together. now that i think about it, they were my first ship.
  • the death scene in the wrath of khan still gets to me.
  • i got choked up when the enterprise was destroyed on the search for spock.
  • but i didn't too much when the enterprise-d was in generations. it wasn't the enterprise of my childhood.
  • i think that voyager was underappreciated.
  • i think that kes got the short end of the stick.
  • i wonder what would've happened with yar if crosby didn't quit TNG.
  • sometimes i think that DS9 was too heavy.
  • i didn't think that the search for spock, the final frontier, generations & insurrection were so bad.
  • i think if ENT had been delayed a year & had new people at the "helm," it could've went for the full 7 years.
  • i don't like nemsis & will never watch it again.
  • i hated the "big shoulder" look the romulans had in TNG & for a while in DS9.
  • i thought that wesley wasn't so bad.
  • i think that they made sisko "hawk in space" on the later seasons of DS9. he even had the same look.

star trek; remastered & sga wins!

there's been a lot of hype about the "remastered" original star trek series. frankly i'm not impressed.
yes, it's a clearer picture & the sound is crisper. or is that the other way around? but i don't like the cgi ship & planet "establishing shots" or the new phaser fire. this is not the star trek of my childhood. this is not the star trek the fired countless imaginations. that inspired countless people to enter the science field or become astronauts & doctors.
and one season on DVD is like $200! you can get ten seasons of stargate sg-1 for just a little more money than that.

in other news stargate: atlantis won the people's choice for fave sci-fi show!

star trek

it's occurred to me that i've done posts about stargate sg-1, but nothing on my first sci-fi love; star trek.
series that i was watching in i often say i've been a fan since birth, but it's probably more like since i was 6. (get this; the last TOS episode ran on june 3, 1969 & june 3 is my b-day) it was the original reruns that got me hooked. then none of my local tv stations were running it. after a while it was announced that a new series would start up. most fans were against it, but my brother & myself were looking forward to it. it didn't not disappoint. neither did deep space nine, voyager or even enterprise. although i agree that "they" should've waited to put out ENT & maybe got some new producers for it. i hear there's a new animated series coming out that takes place after the federation had dissolved & they're trying to start over or something. WTF?! *sigh* maybe i'll just stick to the novels.
