temperatures went from "very reasonable for fall" to "in the depths of winter" over a week or so.
it snowed a few days ago & it's still cold enough to stay for awhile. which my brother likes, every year i have to hear a rant about there not being enough snow in winter.
except it is still fall, and quite frankly, too early for this nonsense.

this time it was flipz; these candy-coated pretzel things. we got 3; milk chocolate, white fudge & fried chocolatey sandwich cookie flavor (a limited time thing).
all of them were fine for what they are; cheap snacks with salty & sweet flavors.
would probably get again.
some kind of limited time thing my brother found at wal-mart a few days ago.
we got one to split and we both agree there is a vague cream taste to it.
not sure what makes it a "holiday" thing, other than the label looks like christmas wrapping paper.
the drink is nothing to get again.
discovered this at wal-mart at one of the end-cap things by the checkouts. they also had cookies n' cream & salted caramel (we tried those). according to google this has been out since july, but we've never seen them before.
rather strong cinnamon taste. kind of like redhots, but not as strong a flavor. i could not taste the sugar part of the snickerdoodle flavor, nor the chocolate or caramel of the twix. glad i split this with my brother.
if you like the kind of heat/spice redhots has, then this is for you. otherwise skip it.
obviously will not get again.
it's been rater fall-like here lately. with very cool/borderline cold temperatures & with windy, overcast days.
but there have been a few random days where it got warmer, more spring-like temperatures. but now it's getting cold again and there might even bee snow. or at least a rain/snow mix.
went to a dollar tree for the first time in a while and decided to get some snacks.
there's a company called brim's that had some chips and whatnot. we got their version of funyuns & their bbq pork rinds.
their funyuns were ok. not a very strong flavor and they had some kind of herb on them. which we've never seen before in a version of funyuns.
the bbq pork rinds had too much bbq flavored dust on them. which is often typical of flavored pork rinds.
neither is anything to get again.
the temperatures (the highs during the day) really dropped off mid-week here. so, unless they go back up for a while (which has been known to happen). it's fall weather now.
i have to switch my spring/summer clothes out for my fall/winter ones. and put my winter gloves and hat in my backpack for when they are needed.
we will probably not get any this year. they don't have white chocolate reeces pumpkins that my brother likes. and everything is so expensive now. we're going to save money and get christmas candy later.
of course this plan may go out the window if there's a good discount on a mixed bag of stuff that we both like that we could divide among us.
we finally had some rain a few days ago. well, more than some. it rained most of the day. quite heavy at times too.
it seems to be cooling off some now, but the weather reports are calling for a random day, or two, or slightly warmer temperatures now and then.
came across these at wal-mart & decided to try them.
Smokehouse-Style Grilled Chicken with Potatoes and Roasted Vegetables-- very spicy. on a scale of 1 to 5, it was a 3.5, almost 4. but someone else who often gets spicy stuff might say it was a 2.
Sausage Beer Cheese with Potato-- a bit spicy, as is to be expected with sausage. a 2.5 -ish on the 1 to 5 scale.
BBQ-Style Grilled Chicken & Fire Roasted Corn-- not too spicy. maybe slightly less than a 2 on the scale.
Steakhouse-Style Steak & Bean-- not much spice. maybe not quite a 1.5 on the scale.
the progresso site lists a Hearty Smokehouse-Style Steak & Potatoes with Roasted Vegetables one, but wal-mart didn't have that.
this is one of three NFL tailgating inspired flavors. the other two being hot sauce (frank's hot sauce) and kettle cooked cheesy buffalo dip.
these chips do not taste like loaded nachos at all. the main (& basically only) flavor is spice. they look like they could taste a bit like cheese, but don't.
we would've gotten the cheesy buffalo dip too (although that would be very spicy), but we do not like kettle cooked chips.
the "specially selected" is their higher-end line of foods.
on our last tripe to aldi, we got 2 kinds of cookies.
triple chocolate brownie; really dry, fell apart, and not that good.
fluffernutter; as in the marshmallow fluff & peanut butter sandwich. better then the brownie ones. but overall, nothing special.
like with pizza, aldi is the place for unusual cookie flavors.
my brother heard about these at the same time as the reese's oreos.
got them from wal-mart the other day.
these have "peanut buttery" cream a.k.a not really peanut butter.
they're OK. better than the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie oreos.
it is a new thing that my brother heard about like a month ago. we spotted them at wal-mart the other day (king size) and got a pack to split between us.
they kind of mimic an oreo with milk chocolate on the bottom and white cream on top, with oreo crumbles in the peanut butter filling.
it was pretty good. if you like oreos & reese's pb cups, you'll probably like this.
there are also oreo reese's peanut buttery creme chocolate sandwich cookies that we will try later.
discovered these things at wal-mart not long ago. technically they are french fry style crust pizzas. but whatever.
they had two; chili cheese & loaded bacon cheddar. the chili cheese was barely OK, could not taste the toppings much & the french fry taste of the crust only a few times.
with the loaded bacon cheddar you was the same with the toppings and could not taste the french fry flavor on the crust at all.
would not get again.
it has been in the 70s the past week or so. it's crazy that it feels so much cooler than the 80s were not long ago. i suppose it is the humidity more than anything.
the nights are really cool, almost cold. with lows in the 50s and even dipping down to the high 40s.

discovered this at target the other day and decided to try it. it was the bigger sausage that you have in a bun, not the breakfast sausage, apple & gouda flavor.
the sausage casing made it very difficult to eat/bite through. the flavor was nothing special. you could taste the cheese, but not very much of the apple.
came across a loaf of this while looking in the wal-mart bakery area the other day & we decided to try it.
we thought it might be egg-y, or have some kind of flavor, but it doesn't. it is kind of dense and we are not sure if that is typical, or because it helps with the shelf life. it didn't have seeds on top, like most of the pictures of ones i've seen.
not anything to get again.
i hate the summer heat. i hate being hot and sweating like crazy.
and it seems to last forever these days. well into september sometimes.
and it pops up on random days in november or december too.

the honey butter flavor is OK, but does not taste good on chips. maybe on a biscuit, or a cracker, but not a potato chip.
this is the last of 3 lay's inspired by international flavors we picked up from wal-mart. if they have something different next time they put these out, we might try them.

like the masala one, it is a mild flavor for the first 2-3 chips & then ramps up from there. but it's not really spicy hot like the other one. just very peppery hot.
You may feel your life is full of uninteresting people. You think they're all alike and fit perfectly within a conservative society. You don't want to be like them and would prefer to meet unusual individuals, people who differ from the crowd. They aren't too far away. You just need to make an effort to look for them.
it's part of their inspired by international flavors line. which we've never seen before we found them at wal-mart. this particular one was "inspired" by the flavors of india.
the first couple of chips you eat have a pretty mild flavor, but when you get to the 3rd & 4th ones it's really hot.
maybe people who are into hot stuff would think it's not too bad, but me and my brother are not any of those people.

so, now and then funyuns will have a different flavor, or added flavor, variety. i saw these for a couple of weeks at wal-mart & decided to try them.
they have a lighter sour cream flavor than lay's sour cream & onion chips. but in spite of that, they're not very good. will most likely stick to the original flavor from now on.
summer has officially arrived with a week of 90f + degree temperatures. ugh!
it used to be that i didn't seriously consider moving into my refrigerator until at least mid-july.
saw a couple of interesting things at wal-mart & decided to get them.
fat boy cookies & cream; it was ok. not as good as the oreo ice cream sandwiches.
breyers s'mores; not that good. barely tasted any gram cracker & not marshmallow or chocolate. technically this is a frozen dairy dessert. frozen dairy desserts do not have certain amount of milkfat in order to qualify as ice cream.
there have been several warmer days the past week or so. although the nights are cool at times.
it's is occasionally rainy, but it seems like it is really spring now.
i noticed the wal-mart brand birthday cake sandwich cookies first. asked my brother what he thought about them & he said get them. then we saw the oreo ones & he said get them for comparison.
neither really tasted like birthday cake. the filling of both tasted a bit like icing. and the cookie part of oreo ones tasted vaguely like cake.
neither are anything to get again.
my brother discovered this at wal-mart.
kind of spicy, but overall not too bad. i like the basic taco flavor of doritos better.
the bag we got was roughly the same size as the typical impulse buy next to the checkout section size. which is good, it's just enough to divide between the two of us to try.
target had the standard size bag of it & that would've been way too much to deal with.
this is something we saw was wal-mart a few weeks ago.
they're the standard reese's peanut butter cups with a layer of either strawberry or grape jelly of some sort. they were in the strip of 10 snack sized ones and we really didn't want to commit to that many of we didn't like them.
but a few days ago my brother saw they had the "big cups" version of both & we got 1 of each.
i don't care for jelly, but i had the strawberry and he had the grape. they were not very good. they had an odd salty taste & you could smell the strawberry before you even bit into it.

it is the end of reese's peanut butter shapes season, which is always a bit of a sad time in this residence.
some thing i stumbled across at wal-mart.
we picked up the Aged White Cheddar & Rosemary flavor. there's also Parmesan and Oregano & Pepper Jack flavors.
it's not good. you're better off getting some sargento cheese sliced, cutting them into quarters & putting them on crackers.
they are a limited time thing we got from wal-mart.
not much lime flavor, which is good. but also leaves a sour-ish taste/feeling on my tongue, which is bad (of course).
also, the cupcakes themselves are smaller & not as thick. which is the way of food products these days.
from the people who bring you english muffins and bagels, comes a new product; croissant bread.
it is very much like a croissant. we had it toasted with butter and un-toasted with butter. it was slightly better toasted, which is probably why they say to do that on the front of the package.
it's more money than regular bread, and even if it wasn't we would not get it again.
another pizza with unusual topping for aldi.
not very good, didn't taste much like a cheeseburger. flatbread pizza is always too tough and has an odd taste.
was vaguely amused by the knock-off heinz ketchup & french's mustard bottles as decoration on the box.
*this is listed as Cheeseburger Party Flatbread on their site, but the box has the word "party" first.
despite a few days of spring-like temperatures, it is still winter.
temperatures are dropping off and there is a chance of snow the next few days.
a new thing from little debbie we got from wal-mart.
it's a different from of their popular nutty buddy wafer bar with peanut butter, coated in chocolate.
even though it's supposed to be the same stuff, it did not taste the same. i think the wafer/crust was different, it had kind of an oddly dense feeling when biting into it.
nutty buddy bars, even the wal-mart brand, are much better.
bettergoods is this new line of food products at wal-mart. they're supposed to be better than their great value line. but everything we've had so far was either bad, or meh.
their soups that come in jars are decent.
tomato, orzo and spinach--not bad, kind of spicy.
tomato three cheese bisque--it was OK, like regular tomato soup but cremaier.
creamy hatch chile and sweet corn chowder--very hot, could not tast anything else. i told my brother that we should not get it, but he insisted.
southwest roasted tomato black bean--very spicy, could not taste much beyond that.
will not get any of these again.
i never heard of this restaurant before finding this brand of frozen pizza at wal-mart.
they must put some kind of stuff on it to make it smell/taste like it's from a wood-fired oven. it is not good.
according to their website this is a thin crust, but it looks like a regular crust to me. what they call ultra thin looks more like the thin crust i'm used to seeing.
saw this at wal-mart & decided to try it. it was very meh and the crust reminded me of the pizza we had in school (which wasn't good).
people say they go to chuck e. cheese for the pizza. but if it's like this i don't see why they do.

and the texture of the ricotta was strange. i'm not one of those types that thinks about the "mouth feel" of food. but i noticed it with this.
it has gone from freezing temperatures for weeks, to almost spring levels of warm.
now it is getting cold again. but not as bad as before.
it is a thin crust, which is an automatic strike against it. IMHO anyway, but my brother likes thin crust.
overall, it was not that good. the bacon had too much smoke flavor & it didn't taste too much like potatoes. even the instant mashed ones like i expected it might taste like.

this is too much for too long. although it might warm up to just above freezing for a few days again.
some time ago oreo had a cookies n' cream oreo that i wanted to get, but missed the boat on that.
now they have a double stuffed one (i think they say mega stuffed) with bits of oreo cookies in the cream. which is close enough to the cookies n' cream ones.
not too bad. basically the taste of regular oreos, but we didn't really notice the chocolate cookie bits.
wal-mart has this bettergoods store brand now. mostly fancier, more expensive things. basically their answer to target's good & gather store brand.
they have some different tortilla chips, we got 2 to try (there are 4-5 different ones);
heirloom blue corn and multigrain tortilla chips; not too bad. kind of thick, which is odd.
cassava flour red quinoa chips (which i can not find on the site for some reason). tastes better than the blue ones, more like regular tortilla chips. these are strips about an inch wide & maybe 4 inches long, on average. which i have never seen before.
if you want something different for your next party, or get together to watch a sports game, these would be good for that.
we got this one not long ago and had it for dinner.
first of all; the meatball pieces were big, but too few. they were just cut in half & they should be cut into smaller pieces.
second; the sauce was very spicy. like buffalo sauce level spice. and nowhere in the description of the pizza was it indicated that it would be spicy.
have to remember not to buy it again.
the past few days it's been getting colder & will stay that way for a bit. that's typical of january.
not too much snow though.
