to anyone reading this
hello & welcome to my blog! such as it is. check out some stuff & FEEL FREE TO COMMENT (will be screened)
the time between thanks giving thanksgiving & new year's seems to be the party season. you have a holiday party, your work has one, your significant other's work has one, your friends all have one, so on & so forth. at most, if not all of these parties there will be drinking of alcoholic beverages.you know what's coming.don't drink & drive. you hear it all of the time, but it's true. and now you hear that "buzzed" driving is just as bad. so please do everyone on the road a big favor, get a designated driver or a cab. many lives could depend on it.
if thanksgiving is the glutton holiday, then christmas is the greed holiday. it seams to be all about "me" "what did you buy me." "what are you getting me." "how dare you say "merry christmas" to me?!"that last one really bugs me. (there's that word again, excuse mmm......myself) there are worse things to say to someone than "merry christmas". several have been said to me. it's suppose to be in "the spirit" of the season to wish that someone have a nice season. my advice: get your shorts out of a bunch & accept that phrase in the spirit the (hopefully) it was given.oh yeah. merry christmas, happy chanukah, happy kwanzaa, a joyful winter solstice & a happy new year too.you know i got off topic here. greed it's a sin (1 of 7 deadly ones) so in this season of giving please remember to give to others who might not have so much. some money to a food bank, a few new unwrapped toys for your local toy-drive or some loose change in that famous red kettle could do a lot to brighten someone's holiday this year.that my social comment for the day. possibly for the week too.
or the glutton holiday (as it seams to be)12,557,310 diets will die a quick, painless death. 20,682,000 arguments will erupt over such topics as which football team will win the superbowl, your niece should leave "that lazy, good for nothing bum" & politics.126,841,735 children will be patted on the head (or pinched on the cheek) and told how much bigger they were than last year. in about 3 fourths of those cases said child will be given some money & told "don't tell your mother"789,000 people will ge sick because A. they ate too much or B. some food was underdone. about half of those who ate too much will vow not to do it next year. chances are they will anyway.60,547,930 people have planned out their shopping strategy for the next day. most of these are women. the rest are significant others & offspring that will be dragged along.the above stats come from the totally made-up, but probably true anyway information institute.
while i'm on the subject of music, i'd like to say a word about the videos all the way at the bottom of this page.most likely they'll all be from youtube.com; star trek, star wars or stargate related & change every month or so. the problem is i've found some good ones and put them on my favorites list, but now some have been removed for one reason or another. *sigh*anyway i'll try to change them every once in a while to keep things interesting around here.
there's a section in the profile you fill out here for favorite songs, but there are too many to list.i like a wide variety of music, "oldies" mostly. but i like some newer stuff too. sexy back by justin timberlake, s.o.s by rihanna, breakaway by kelly clarkson, far away by nickleback, every time we touch by cascada, etc. etc. so on & so forth.i like most of billy joel's stuff, some of aerosmith's stuff and a lot of the beatles' songs. i even like a couple of country & rap tunes. plus a few enya songs for good measure.i think music is like food, you won't know what you'll like until you try a little of everything.
cold and flu time will soon be upon us,(if it isn't already)so that means it's the season for sneezin'.so when someone sneezes,do you say God bless you or gesundheit? if someone says "God bless you" & you don't like it, do you say something? do you go on a rant about it? should you say anything about you feelings?it's my humble opinion that you shouldn't. if you don't like that for whatever reason, just smile politely and say thank you. you don't even have to smile, hell you don't even have to say thank you. sure the person will think you're a rude jerk, but that's better than them thinking that you're nuts.
well tonight is halloween (but you knew that) i hope you had fun & made it through safely. i'd post a history of the holiday, but you can google that yourself.
the dentists say you should wait to until your kid(s) is(are) asleep & go through the goody bag(s) {assuming there's anything left} and take out any gooey, sticky or hard candy. i see 2 things wrong with that:
- most every candy is gooey, sticky or hard
- your kid(s) will be upset to learn that about half of the candy is gone
anyway; tomorrow you'll clean the TP of your house & trees, then start planning your costume for next year's blow-out halloween bash. and begin thinking about thanksgiving.
it's occurred to me that my last couple of posts have been somewhat serious. don't get used to that. so lest (it's a word, google it) you think i'm a serous minded woman, i'm about to discuss a less than serious topic.
stargate sg-1.
i know what you're thinking, it's a TV show!!
my response to you: so? and? therefore?
based on the stargate movie (maybe inspired by is a better term) recently canceled {"they" say "non-renewed"} after 10 seasons & over 200 episodes amid much protest from fans & now a recent promise of 2 direct to DVD movies. i didn't see the movie until a couple of years after i started watching the TV show. (not a bad movie) i only started watching because richard dean anderson (macgyver) was in it. the next thing i know, 10 years go by. (give or take, the syndicated episodes are 2 years behind the first aired ones)
the big outcry over the cancellation, (excuse me, non-renewal) in my opinion, was for 2 reasons:
- a 11th season was "in the bag" so to speak. everyone was supposedly lined-up. the first time they knew they had another season coming.
- it's a good show, well written & acted.
- it's stargate.
there's a big letter writing/call in/on-line petition campaign going on. as well as a send in tissue boxes campaign (daniel jackson had allergies early on) i don't know if any of it will help, but it couldn't hurt. there's even a slew (google that too) of "save stargate!" videos on places like youtube.com. this is one of my favorite
no matter what this show will go on in syndication & on DVD
it just occured to me that i've posted every day, don't get used to that either.
EDIT: the vid was removed
well it's that time of year again, where most of us start thinking about thanksgiving & (gasp!) christmas. i'd just like for you to pause for a moment before you start putting up the decorations & trying to figure out what your uncle wants for a gift.
think about those who have less than you do.
i know. you're thinking "God. not another think about the poor message." but this is whether you like it or not.
the poor are everywhere. they might be a friend or relative or yours. you might be one of the poor some day.
so i'm asking you to give to your local food bank (or turkey fund) this season. it doesn't have to be a lot of money $10 or $20 can help out. or pick up a couple of extra cans of corn or a box of rice at the supermarket when you go. get 1 or 2 different things every week & at the end of the month drop it all off at the local food bank. don't know where it is? look in your local phone book or on this technology called the internet. you'll make someone's holiday better this year. (& every year if you do this yearly)
that's my public service announcement for the day {& possibly for the week}
daylight savings time ends tonight (i believe) so set all of those clocks & watches back one hour before you go to sleep. {FYI today's the day to change your smoke detector batteries, flip your mattress & rotate your car tiers too}
daylight savings time is a load of crap IMHO. supposedly it was set up to give farmers more time to work. but anyone who knows anything about farmers knows that most get up at dawn, no matter what it says on the clock.
now the government is making the daylight savings time period longer "to save energy". i don't see how. there are about 12 hours of day & 12 hours of night no matter what. it's a bunch of nonsense in my opinion.
and that is my political comment for the day. ( possibly the week too)
i thought i'd be the only person with internet access with out a "blog".
so how did this happen? i have no friggin' idea. i have a journal i hardly write in any more for crying out loud!
1,000,000 blogs out there & i have to add one more.
what i wonder is why YOU out there read these things?
one thing's almost for certain, this will be the most boring blog you'll ever read
